Premium HD Webcam For Mac - From Logitech

Logitech has upped the ante on delivering a premium, Mac compatible HD webcam for Mac users with the C930e. Featuring a wide-angle 90 degree field of view (FOV) it's well suited for group conferences when 2 or more people need to fit onscreen. It offers stereo microphones, an optical quality Zeiss glass lens, advanced autofocus, and light correction for sharp, color-accurate conferencing on Mac OSX 10.7 or higher.

Strangely, you won't find the C930 web camera listed along with other consumer accessories in their webcam product section, it's listed in the 'Business' section of Logitech's website.

This USB Video Class - UVC v1.5 compliant camera also supports H.264 hardware video compression to negotiate and deliver high quality HD video chat sessions when bandwidth allows it in supported applications like Mac Skype.

Last thing to note: Because of exceptionally high quality optics, sensors and electronics, the higher-end Logitech webcams are a good choice for Mac users. Although Windows users get the added benefit of OS-specific Windows webcam software, premium logitech cameras handle autofocus, color fidelity and light management completely in hardware -- assuring Macintosh owners a quality image right out of the box. If you need even more control over the webcam's image, Mactaris and eCamm offer webcam settings apps for Mac OSX that can let you fine-tune the web cameras response to your liking.

High-Def Webcams for Mac

HD Webcams for Mac OSX  - Though many Mac video chat programs can't take advantage of the higher resolutions and wide-angle 16:9 aspect ratios the latest round of HD web cameras offer -- there's still good reason to choose a HD web cam. The higher resolution sensors of the cams simply provide more clarity and detail than ever before. Also of note is these sensors color fidelity is far superior to webcams from just a few years ago.

At the high-end, the best webcams for Mac feature great quality optics and glass lenses to deliver razor sharp images.

The featured Logitech HD webcam featured here works great on Mac OSX Leopard and really defines state-of-the-art video chat on a Macintosh. Though most programs like iChat, FaceTime, Skype and others will only make use of the standard 640x480 VGA mode, this camera clearly delivers a superior image over nearly every other webcam made - including Apple's built-in iSight cameras.

Where HD 720p and 1080p cams suffer is when used at their true HD resolution modes. Even with the fastest of Macs - you may find QuickTime Player video capture mode set to 'Maximum' will indeed give you a full-screen, wide-angle image. But the frame rate may slow to a crawl.
